![]() Simplifying it a lot, a CPU made with higher quality materials is likely to need less power to operate (be more efficient) than others with lesser quality. Remember that computer hardware is made from raw materials, and those are from varying quality. But hey, won't lowering the voltage of stuff make it stop working? Not really, if you do it right. This can be a significant improvement on temps if you are lucky. Undervolting is the process of lowering the voltage at which your CPU or GPU run at to lower heat and somewhat increase power efficiency. The 3rd one and the kind of dangerous one (if you aren't careful really) is to look into undervolting. This is honestly counter productive, but it may make it so that it takes longer before your machine starts overheating or it may allow you to maintain a constant level of performance, albeit lower than your processor's turbo frequency. The second one, not very pleasing, is to disable turbo boost. Make sure you are not blocking the airways while you play too (i.e. Get rid of the dust and ideally, change the thermal paste. The first one, the obvious one, is to clean your computer. If it turns out to be the temps, there are 3 things I suggest you do. If you can check your temps with MSI Afterburner, you'll likely get your culprit. You did mention that it's a laptop, and that the framedrops are not constant but random. My honest best guess is that this is a heat issue though. ![]() I specifically say CPU resources because Valorant has a tendency, in my experience, to be quite more CPU demanding than GPU demanding, and thus anything running in the background is likely to have more of an impact. Going into task manager it should be quite obvious what is taking up CPU time. For once, make sure to keep in check or straight up uninstall anything that has a tendency to keep running in the background (OneDrive for example). If you want to "optimize" your system, the best practices are pretty straightforward. They are more often than not snake oil, and in some cases they might even be harmful or just not trust worthy in general. Like other folks mentioned, you should probably stay away from so called "optimizer" software.
